Does anyone actually respond positively to random spam ads on forums? I doubt it's a very effective marketing strategy, but people keep trying... :quest:

Its about Search engine rankings Doggie.
the main ones practically live here and the spammers want their links listed.

Ok. But why? I don't understand where the profit motive comes from if no one's responding to the ads with purchases, and I don't understand why anyone would see ads like that and decide to buy...

It's not about ads or enticing persons to buy.

Google counts the number of web sites that has your URL on it. The more sites that have your URL the more importance Google places on your site and will therefore display your site higher up in the search results.

It's about getting his URL to display on page one of the search results when Murph searches for a Blackberry bold.

That makes sense. One thing, though. from what I remember, he didn't post a url, just an email addy?

Mererdog is the smallest of dogs
with the black underlines being links as in the above line.

FYI:

from YourDictionary.com

merer: noun
Synonym: yammer

yammer - definition of yammer

transitive verb: to say loudly and fretfully.
noun: the act of yammering, or something yammered.

I could not find "merer" listed like that. What I did find, was that putting it into their search engine brought up hammer and yammer, as in ham′·merer and yam′·merer...
I strongly advise against looking up "kokigami" .

Sigh...I stand corrected. I DID misread what yourdictionary.com was saying.
There for a while I thought I had deciphered the meaning of mererdog as: "an incessantly pestering puppy"
...you gotta admit, it was an attractive concept!

Lol I never knew what that meant until just now. I was laughing out loud when I looked inside on the 5th page of this book at Amazon and it told one how to "break one in'

Not being familiar with the concept of homophonics,
and being too lazy to "look it up", allow me to "guess"

mererdog = mirror (of) d-o-g

mererdog (therefore) = g-o-d

correct?
not?

~ Golly, & here I thought it was 'mere' as in 'being nothing more than' { my dictionary } & 'merer' as in more such dog, which personally I thought pretty cool...
But then again  I am often a dolt & apologise if I offend :dntknw:

That meaning is a happy accident that helped solidify the decision to use the moniker. It's a fairly evocative bit of text with lots of room for running gags... There's at least a couple other people who have started using it on the web, and I can't help but wonder whether they intentionally nicked it or if the collective unconscious is just working it's charms again....

I own the book. It is funny. Or was, when I picked the name. As a name it was Obscure, Prurient, and sidelong intellectual. I sometimes think of changing it now, after many years, but I really hate changing names. The authors also wrote "why cats paint".
